  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to education; establishing a uniform minimum 
  1.3             length of the school year; amending Minnesota Statutes 
  1.4             1998, section 120A.41. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 120A.41, is 
  1.7   amended to read: 
  1.8      120A.41 [LENGTH OF SCHOOL YEAR; DAYS OF INSTRUCTION.] 
  1.9      A school board's annual school calendar must include at 
  1.10  least three additional days of student instruction beyond the 
  1.11  number of 175 days of student instruction the board formally 
  1.12  adopted as its school calendar at the beginning of the 1996-1997 
  1.13  school year. 
  1.14     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.15     Section 1 is effective the day following final enactment 
  1.16  and applies for 1999-2000 and later school years.
