  1.1                          A bill for an act
  1.2             relating to crime prevention; requiring retailers to 
  1.3             include serial numbers of goods sold on receipts for 
  1.4             goods purchased with a credit card to allow for 
  1.5             tracing of stolen goods; proposing coding for new law 
  1.6             in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 325F. 
  1.7   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.8      Section 1.  [325F.801] [RECORD OF SERIAL NUMBERS.] 
  1.9      A retail seller of goods must record the serial number of 
  1.10  each item of goods sold when the item: 
  1.11     (1) contains a manufacturer's serial number; 
  1.12     (2) has a value of $100 or more; and 
  1.13     (3) is purchased by use of a credit card. 
  1.14     The seller must record the serial number on the sales 
  1.15  receipt and the seller must keep a copy of each sales receipt 
  1.16  for three years.  For purposes of this section, "seller" has the 
  1.17  meaning given in section 325F.80, subdivision 1.
