  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to retirement; teachers retirement 
  1.3             association; authorizing a service credit purchase for 
  1.4             an uncredited leave period. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [TEACHERS RETIREMENT ASSOCIATION; SERVICE 
  1.7   CREDIT PURCHASE.] 
  1.8      (a) Notwithstanding any other law to the contrary, an 
  1.9   eligible person described in paragraph (b) is entitled to 
  1.10  purchase service credit from the teachers retirement association 
  1.11  for the period from April 3, 1998, to June 12, 1998, upon 
  1.12  payment of the purchase price specified in paragraph (c). 
  1.13     (b) An eligible person is a person who: 
  1.14     (1) is a current member of the teachers retirement 
  1.15  association; 
  1.16     (2) is employed by independent school district No. 270, 
  1.17  Hopkins, as a special education teacher in the Epsilon program; 
  1.18  and 
  1.19     (3) was on leave from independent school district No. 270 
  1.20  from April 3, 1998, to June 12, 1998. 
  1.21     (c) The purchase payment amount must be determined as 
  1.22  provided in Minnesota Statutes, section 356.55 or 356.551, 
  1.23  whichever is applicable.  
  1.24     (d) Payment of the prior service credit purchase amount may 
  1.25  be made any time before January 1, 2002. 
  2.1      Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  2.2      Section 1 is effective the day following final enactment.
