  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to drivers' licenses; allowing use of expired 
  1.3             United States passport as secondary identification for 
  1.4             applicant for driver's license, permit, or 
  1.5             identification card; amending Minnesota Statutes 1998, 
  1.6             section 171.06, by adding a subdivision. 
  1.7   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.8      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 171.06, is 
  1.9   amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.10     Subd. 6.  [IDENTIFICATION.] In requiring identification of 
  1.11  an applicant for a Minnesota driver's license, permit, or 
  1.12  identification card, the department shall accept as adequate 
  1.13  identification, when accompanied by a primary document as 
  1.14  defined by rule, a United States passport that expired not more 
  1.15  than five years before the date it is presented as 
  1.16  identification.
