  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to education; modifying sparsity correction 
  1.3             revenue; amending Laws 2000, chapter 489, article 2, 
  1.4             section 37. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  Laws 2000, chapter 489, article 2, section 37, 
  1.7   is amended to read: 
  1.8      Sec. 37.  [SPARSITY CORRECTION REVENUE.] 
  1.9      Subdivision 1.  [QUALIFICATION FOR REVENUE.] A school 
  1.10  district qualifies for sparsity correction revenue if it 
  1.11  qualifies for sparsity revenue, according to Minnesota Statutes, 
  1.12  section 126C.10, subdivisions 7 and 8, in fiscal year 2000 or 
  1.13  2001 and the amount of sparsity revenue it received in those 
  1.14  years is less than the amount it would have received in fiscal 
  1.15  year 2000 or 2001 prior to the passage of Laws 1999, chapter 
  1.16  241, article 1, sections 18 and 19. 
  1.17     Subd. 2.  [FISCAL YEAR 2000 CALCULATION.] For fiscal year 
  1.18  2000, a school district's sparsity correction revenue equals the 
  1.19  difference between sparsity revenue in fiscal year 2000 
  1.20  calculated according to Laws 1999, chapter 241, article 1, 
  1.21  sections 18 and 19, and the sparsity revenue the district would 
  1.22  have received for fiscal year 2000 had these sections of law not 
  1.23  been approved. 
  1.24     Subd. 3.  [FISCAL YEAR 2001 CALCULATION AND LATER 
  1.25  CALCULATIONS.] For fiscal year 2001, a school district's 
  2.1   sparsity correction revenue equals .5 the sparsity revenue 
  2.2   factor times the difference between sparsity revenue in fiscal 
  2.3   year 2001 calculated according to Laws 1999, chapter 241, 
  2.4   article 1, sections 18 and 19, and the sparsity revenue the 
  2.5   district would have received for fiscal year 2001 had these 
  2.6   sections of law not been approved. 
  2.7      Subd. 4.  [SPARSITY REVENUE FACTOR.] A school district's 
  2.8   sparsity revenue factor equals .9 in fiscal year 2001 and is 
  2.9   reduced by .1 for each subsequent year. 
  2.10     [EFFECTIVE DATE.] This section is effective the day 
  2.11  following final enactment.
