  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to economic development; providing targeted 
  1.3             funding for the Minnesota investment fund; 
  1.4             appropriating money. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [APPROPRIATION; DEPARTMENT OF TRADE AND 
  1.7   ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT.] 
  1.8      $15,000,000 is appropriated from the general fund in fiscal 
  1.9   year 2002 to the commissioner of trade and economic development 
  1.10  for the purposes of the Minnesota investment fund program under 
  1.11  Minnesota Statutes, section 116J.8731.  This appropriation must 
  1.12  be used for financial assistance for economic development in the 
  1.13  areas contained in independent school districts No. 2711, the 
  1.14  Mesabi East school district; No. 706, the Virginia school 
  1.15  district; and No. 2154, the Eveleth-Gilbert school district and 
  1.16  that portion of independent school district No. 2142, the St. 
  1.17  Louis county school district, that was formerly the Tower-Soudan 
  1.18  and the Babbitt-Embarrass school districts.  This appropriation 
  1.19  does not cancel.
