  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to courts; providing for the size of petit 
  1.3             juries in civil and criminal cases; proposing coding 
  1.4             for new law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 593. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [593.185] [PETIT JURY.] 
  1.7      "Petit jury" means a body of six persons, impaneled and 
  1.8   sworn in any court to try and determine, by verdict, any 
  1.9   question or issue of fact in a civil or criminal action or 
  1.10  proceeding, according to law and the evidence as given them in 
  1.11  court.  In a criminal action where the offense charged is a 
  1.12  felony or an enhanced gross misdemeanor, a petit jury is a body 
  1.13  of 12 persons, unless a different size is established in 
  1.14  accordance with the Minnesota Rules of Criminal Procedure. 
  1.15     Sec. 2.  [SUPERSEDED RULE.] 
  1.16     Jury management rule 802 of the Minnesota General Rules of 
  1.17  Practice for the District Courts, is superseded to the extent it 
  1.18  conflicts with section 1. 
  1.19     Sec. 3.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.20     Sections 1 and 2 are effective the day following final 
  1.21  enactment and apply to proceedings conducted on or after that 
  1.22  date.
