  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to crimes; requiring suspension of a driver's 
  1.3             license for a period of one year if defendant was 
  1.4             convicted of theft of gasoline; proposing coding for 
  1.5             new law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 171. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  [171.175] [SUSPENSION; THEFT OF GASOLINE 
  1.8   OFFENSE.] 
  1.9      Subdivision 1.  [THEFT OF GASOLINE.] The commissioner of 
  1.10  public safety shall suspend the license of any person convicted 
  1.11  or juvenile adjudicated delinquent for theft of gasoline under 
  1.12  section 609.52, subdivision 2, clause (1), for a period of one 
  1.13  year. 
  1.14     Subd. 2.  [DEFINITION.] For the purpose of this section, 
  1.15  "gasoline" has the meaning given it in section 296A.01, 
  1.16  subdivision 23. 
  1.17     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.18     Section 1 applies to crimes committed on or after August 1, 
  1.19  2000.
