A bill for an act
relating to human services; enacting Hanna's law by modifying cardiopulmonary
resuscitation requirements for child care center staff; amending Minnesota
Statutes 2010, section 245A.40, subdivision 4.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

Minnesota Statutes 2010, section 245A.40, subdivision 4, is amended to
read:


Subd. 4.

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

(a) new text begin All teachers and assistant teachers
who are employed by a child care center governed by Minnesota Rules, parts 9503.0005
to 9503.0170 must satisfactorily complete training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation
(CPR) and in the treatment of obstructed airways including CPR techniques for infants
and children.

transporting children in care, all teachers, assistant teachers, and at least one staff person
must have completed CPR training. For the purposes of this subdivision, each teacher,
assistant teacher, and staff person must complete CPR training within 90 days after the
start of employment unless the individual has completed CPR training within the previous
three years.
new text end The CPR training must have been provided by an individual approved to
provide CPR instruction, must be repeated at least once every three years, and must be
documented in the staff person's records.

(b) CPR training may be provided for less than four hours.

(c) Persons qualified to provide CPR training shall include individuals approved
as CPR instructors.
