  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to local government; authorizing the city of 
  1.3             Mahtomedi to provide housing assistance to get local 
  1.4             daytime paramedic service. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [LOCAL HOUSING TO GET DAYTIME PARAMEDIC 
  1.7   SERVICE.] 
  1.8      The city of Mahtomedi may acquire or lease residential 
  1.9   property or otherwise provide housing assistance in the city for 
  1.10  one or more volunteer firefighters with paramedic credentials.  
  1.11  The purpose of the housing assistance is to ensure that the city 
  1.12  has timely paramedic and related services available during the 
  1.13  daytime. 
  1.14     Sec. 2.  [TIME OF EFFECT; NO LOCAL APPROVAL.] 
  1.15     (a) Under Minnesota Statutes, section 645.023, subdivision 
  1.16  1, clause (a), no local approval is required for section 1 since 
  1.17  section 1 authorizes the city of Mahtomedi to exercise authority 
  1.18  not granted by general law. 
  1.19     (b) Section 1 is effective the day after its final 
  1.20  enactment.
