A bill for an act
relating to economic development; appropriating money for biotechnology and
medical genomics research; requiring a report.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin APPROPRIATION; REPORT.

new text begin $15,000,000 is appropriated for the 2008-2009 biennium from the general fund
to the commissioner of employment and economic development for the direct and
indirect expenses of the collaborative research partnership between the University of
Minnesota and the Mayo Foundation for research in biotechnology and medical genomics.
This appropriation shall become a part of the agency's base and shall be available until
expended.

new text begin An annual report on the expenditure of these funds must be submitted to the governor
and the chairs of the senate and house committees responsible for higher education and
economic development by June 30 of each fiscal year until the appropriation is expended.
