relating to human services; appropriating money for food shelf programs.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin APPROPRIATION; FOOD SHELF PROGRAMS.

new text begin $1,500,000 in fiscal year 2020 is appropriated from the general fund to the commissioner
of human services for food shelf programs under Minnesota Statutes, section 256E.34.
$1,000,000 is appropriated for food shelves that provide service in Minneapolis and St. Paul
that were impacted by the loss of grocery stores and can be used to purchase food, diapers,
supplies to adapt their operations, and food delivery to people with transportation and
mobility barriers. $500,000 is appropriated for start-up funds for new food shelves in
locations where gaps have emerged or culturally specific needs have been identified.
