  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to education; requiring projections of high 
  1.3             school graduates; amending Minnesota Statutes 2002, 
  1.4             section 127A.05, by adding a subdivision.  
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 2002, section 127A.05, is 
  1.7   amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.8      Subd. 7.  [GRADUATION PROJECTIONS.] The commissioner of 
  1.9   children, families, and learning shall prepare estimates of the 
  1.10  number of high school graduates in each region of the state as 
  1.11  defined in section 462.385, subdivision 1.  The estimates must 
  1.12  at a minimum include annual projections over a ten-year period 
  1.13  of all public and private high school graduates.  The state 
  1.14  demographer and the higher education services office must 
  1.15  cooperate in the development of estimates of high school 
  1.16  graduates.  The estimates must be delivered to the education 
  1.17  committees of the legislature by January 15 of each odd-numbered 
  1.18  year.
