  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to elections; presidential electors; 
  1.3             providing for designation of certain presidential 
  1.4             electors and specifying the duties of presidential 
  1.5             electors; amending Minnesota Statutes 2000, sections 
  1.6             208.03; and 208.08. 
  1.7   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.8      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 2000, section 208.03, is 
  1.9   amended to read: 
  1.10     208.03 [NOMINATION OF PRESIDENTIAL ELECTORS.] 
  1.11     Presidential electors for the major political parties of 
  1.12  this state shall be nominated by delegate conventions called and 
  1.13  held under the supervision of the respective state central 
  1.14  committees of the parties of this state.  Each major political 
  1.15  party shall nominate one presidential elector from each 
  1.16  congressional district and two presidential electors from the 
  1.17  state at large.  On or before primary election day the chair of 
  1.18  the major political party shall certify to the secretary of 
  1.19  state the names of the persons nominated as presidential 
  1.20  electors; whether each elector is designated at-large or from a 
  1.21  particular congressional district, and in the latter case, which 
  1.22  district the individual represents; and the names of the party 
  1.23  candidates for president and vice-president. 
  1.24     Sec. 2.  Minnesota Statutes 2000, section 208.08, is 
  1.25  amended to read: 
  1.26     208.08 [ELECTORS TO MEET AT STATE CAPITOL.] 
  2.1      The original and substituted presidential electors, at 
  2.2   12:00 M., shall meet in the executive chamber at the state 
  2.3   capitol and shall perform all the duties imposed upon them as 
  2.4   electors by the constitution and laws of the United States and 
  2.5   this state.  Each congressional district presidential elector 
  2.6   shall cast a ballot for the presidential and vice-presidential 
  2.7   candidates who received the highest number of votes in that 
  2.8   congressional district.  Each at-large presidential elector 
  2.9   shall cast a ballot for the presidential and vice-presidential 
  2.10  candidates who received the highest number of votes in the state.
