  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to elections; providing for simulated 
  1.3             elections for minors; proposing coding for new law in 
  1.4             Minnesota Statutes, chapter 204B. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [204B.48] [SIMULATED ELECTIONS FOR MINORS.] 
  1.7      Notwithstanding any other section of the election laws, the 
  1.8   secretary of state may authorize, in one or more precincts in 
  1.9   one or more cities or counties, a program allowing individuals 
  1.10  under the age of 18 to enter the polling place and vote in a 
  1.11  simulated election, to be held at the same time as a primary or 
  1.12  general election.  Any individual working in or supervising at a 
  1.13  simulated election may enter the polling place and remain within 
  1.14  it during the entire period the polls are open.  A program 
  1.15  established under this section must require: 
  1.16     (1) that the duties imposed on election judges may be 
  1.17  performed by those judges in regard to simulated elections and 
  1.18  all activities related to simulated elections; 
  1.19     (2) that volunteers provide the personnel necessary to 
  1.20  conduct the simulated election, except that employees of the 
  1.21  secretary of state, state, county, city employees who are 
  1.22  involved in the election process, and election judges may aid in 
  1.23  operating the simulated election program to the extent permitted 
  1.24  by the secretary of state; and 
  1.25     (3) that individuals under the age of 14 must be 
  2.1   accompanied to the simulated election by an individual 18 years 
  2.2   of age or over. 
  2.3      The secretary of state may adopt rules necessary for the 
  2.4   orderly simultaneous administration of the regular election and 
  2.5   simulated election processes.
