  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to drivers' licenses; including certain 
  1.3             crimes against children as disqualifying offenses for 
  1.4             purposes of school bus endorsements on drivers' 
  1.5             licenses; amending Minnesota Statutes 2000, section 
  1.6             171.3215, subdivision 1. 
  1.7   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.8      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 2000, section 171.3215, 
  1.9   subdivision 1, is amended to read: 
  1.10     Subdivision 1.  [DEFINITIONS.] (a) As used in this section, 
  1.11  the following terms have the meanings given them. 
  1.12     (b) "School bus driver" means a person possessing a school 
  1.13  bus driver's endorsement on a valid Minnesota driver's license 
  1.14  or a person possessing a valid Minnesota driver's license who 
  1.15  drives a vehicle with a seating capacity of ten or less persons 
  1.16  used as a school bus. 
  1.17     (c) "Disqualifying offense" includes (1) any felony 
  1.18  offense, (2) any misdemeanor, gross misdemeanor, or felony 
  1.19  violation of chapter 152, or (3) any violation under section 
  1.20  609.3451, 609.746, subdivision 1, or 617.23, 617.246, 617.247, 
  1.21  or 617.293, or (4) while driving, operating, or being in 
  1.22  physical control of a school bus or a Head Start bus, a 
  1.23  violation of section 169A.20 or a similar statute or ordinance 
  1.24  from another state. 
  1.25     (d) "Head Start bus driver" means a person possessing a 
  1.26  valid Minnesota driver's license: 
  2.1      (1) with a passenger endorsement, who drives a Head Start 
  2.2   bus; 
  2.3      (2) with a school bus driver's endorsement, who drives a 
  2.4   Head Start bus; or 
  2.5      (3) who drives a vehicle with a seating capacity of ten or 
  2.6   fewer persons used as a Head Start bus. 
  2.7      Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE; APPLICABILITY.] 
  2.8      Section 1 is effective August 1, 2001, and applies to 
  2.9   school bus endorsements issued on and after that date.
