A bill for an act
relating to corrections; extending the sunset of the Itasca County Jail facility.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin ITASCA COUNTY JAIL SUNSET EXTENSION.

new text begin Notwithstanding any other law or rule to the contrary, the May 1, 2023, sunset date set
by the Department of Corrections that terminates Itasca County's authority to hold persons
within its existing county jail facility is extended to May 1, 2024. Itasca County must
continue to operate a constitutionally safe and sound jail as determined by the Department
of Corrections through the sunset date.
