A bill for an act
relating to motor vehicles; expanding definition of
farm truck to include trucks used primarily to
transport animal carcasses to places of rendering;
making technical and clarifying revisions; amending
Minnesota Statutes 2004, section 168.011, subdivision
17.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

Minnesota Statutes 2004, section 168.011,
subdivision 17, is amended to read:


Subd. 17.

Farm truck.

(a) "Farm truck" means all
single-unit trucks, truck-tractors, tractors, semitrailers, and
trailers new text begin registered as "farm trucks," that are new text end usednew text begin :

market,
new text end agricultural, horticultural, dairy, and other farm
products, including livestock, produced or finished by the owner

farm to market, and to transport property and supplies

Trucks, truck-tractors, tractors, semitrailers, and trailers
registered as "farm trucks" may be used by the owner thereof to

property and supplies;

of production to market,

harvests and hauls forest products only, to transport new text begin from the
place of production to an intermediate or final assembly point
or transfer yard or railhead,
new text end logs, pulpwood, lumber, chips,
railroad tiesnew text begin ,new text end and other raw and unfinished forest products deleted text begin from
the place of production to an intermediate or final assembly
point or transfer yard or railhead
deleted text end , which transportation may be
continued by another farm truck to a place for final processing
or manufacture located within 200 miles of the place of
production deleted text begin and deleted text end new text begin ,new text end all of which is deemed to constitute the first
haul of unfinished wood products; provided that the owner and
operator of the vehicle transporting planed lumber deleted text begin shall deleted text end new text begin must
new text end have in immediate possession a statement signed by the producer
of the lumber designating the governmental subdivision, section,
and township where the lumber was produced and that this haul,
indicating the date, is the first haul deleted text begin thereof deleted text end new text begin of that lumbernew text end .
The licensed vehicles may also be used by the owner deleted text begin thereof deleted text end to
transport, to and from timber-harvesting areas, equipment and
appurtenances incidental to timber harvestingdeleted text begin ,deleted text end and gravel and
other road-building materials for timber haul roads.

(b) "Farm deleted text begin trucks deleted text end new text begin truck new text end " deleted text begin shall deleted text end also deleted text begin include deleted text end new text begin includes new text end only
single-unit trucks that, because of their construction, cannot
be used for any other purpose and are used exclusively to
transport milk and cream en route from a farm to an assembly
point or place for final manufacturedeleted text begin , and for transporting milk

carry on usual accommodation services for patrons on regular
return trips, such as butter, cream, cheese, and other dairy
supplies.
