A bill for an act
relating to state government; limiting attorney fees in certain circumstances;
proposing coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 15.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

new text begin Notwithstanding any other provision of law, no representative of the state shall enter
into a contract for legal services with a private attorney, in a lawsuit where the state is a
party, in which the attorney fees paid by the state are more than the greater of $100,000 or
two percent of the settlement amount. A contract contemplating more than the greater of
$100,000 or two percent of the settlement amount must be submitted to the Legislative
Advisory Commission for approval.
