A bill for an act
relating to agriculture; appropriating money for wolf and elk depredation payments.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin DEPREDATION PAYMENTS; APPROPRIATION.

new text begin (a) $....... is appropriated in fiscal year 2018 and $....... is appropriated in fiscal year 2019
from the general fund to the commissioner of agriculture for compensation payments under
Minnesota Statutes, section 3.737, for livestock destroyed or crippled by wolves. If the
amount in the first year is insufficient, the amount in the second year is available in the first
year.

new text begin (b) $....... is appropriated in fiscal year 2018 and $....... is appropriated in fiscal year 2019
from the general fund to the commissioner of agriculture for compensation payments under
Minnesota Statutes, section 3.7371, for crop or fence damage caused by elk. If the amount
in the first year is insufficient, the amount in the second year is available in the first year.

new text begin (c) If the commissioner determines that claims made under Minnesota Statutes, section
3.737 or 3.7371, are unusually high, the commissioner may transfer amounts appropriated
for either program to the appropriation for the other program.

year 2018 or 2019, as well as any valid claims that were submitted during fiscal year 2016
or 2017 but were not paid by the commissioner due to a shortage of funding.
