A bill for an act
relating to environment; appropriating money for a study of plastic microbeads
in surface waters.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin APPROPRIATION; PLASTIC MICROBEAD STUDY.

new text begin $....... is appropriated from the clean water fund in fiscal year 2015 to the
commissioner of the Pollution Control Agency to identify polyethylene and other
plastic microbeads in the state's surface waters and, in consultation with the University
of Minnesota, to study their impact on aquatic ecosystems and human health. The
commissioner must examine water samples collected as part of the agency's ongoing
assessment of surface water impairment. No later than January 15, 2016, the commissioner
must present the agency's findings to the legislative committees with jurisdiction over
environment and natural resources policy and finance.
