  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to corrections; authorizing Department of 
  1.3             Corrections forensic pathologists to issue death 
  1.4             certificates; amending Minnesota Statutes 2002, 
  1.5             section 390.23. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 2002, section 390.23, is 
  1.8   amended to read: 
  1.9      390.23 [RECORDS OF VIOLENT OR MYSTERIOUS DEATH.] 
  1.10     No person, other than the county coroner, medical examiner, 
  1.11  or judge exercising probate jurisdiction, or Department of 
  1.12  Corrections' independent, contracted, board-certified forensic 
  1.13  pathologist, shall issue a record of death in cases of violent 
  1.14  or mysterious deaths, including suspected homicides, occurring 
  1.15  in the county.  The Department of Corrections' independent, 
  1.16  contracted, board-certified forensic pathologist must issue the 
  1.17  certificate of death in all Department of Corrections 
  1.18  incarcerated deaths.
