  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to hospital districts; authorizing hospital 
  1.3             districts to operate assisted living facilities; 
  1.4             amending Minnesota Statutes 1996, section 447.33, 
  1.5             subdivision 1. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1996, section 447.33, 
  1.8   subdivision 1, is amended to read: 
  1.9      Subdivision 1.  [BROAD POWERS OF DISTRICT.] Each hospital 
  1.10  district created or reorganized under sections 447.31 to 447.37 
  1.11  has the powers necessary and convenient to acquire, improve, and 
  1.12  run the hospital and, nursing home facilities, and assisted 
  1.13  living facilities as the hospital board finds expedient.  The 
  1.14  list of powers in this section does not restrict the power of 
  1.15  the board.  It may take any action reasonably necessary or 
  1.16  convenient to further the purpose for which the district exists 
  1.17  which is not otherwise prohibited by law.
