  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to school buses; authorizing the commissioner 
  1.3             of public safety to cancel the school bus driver's 
  1.4             endorsement of a person who has been convicted of a 
  1.5             gross misdemeanor or of multiple violations that show 
  1.6             evidence of a risk to public safety; proposing coding 
  1.7             for new law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 171.  
  1.8   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.9      Section 1.  [171.3216] [ACTIONS ON SCHOOL BUS ENDORSEMENT.] 
  1.10     In addition to any authority granted under section 
  1.11  171.3215, the commissioner may cancel a school bus driver's 
  1.12  endorsement on a driver's license of any person if the 
  1.13  commissioner determines that the person has (1) been convicted 
  1.14  of a gross misdemeanor that the commissioner determines shows 
  1.15  evidence that the person represents a risk to public safety, or 
  1.16  (2) been convicted of a series of violations of law that the 
  1.17  commissioner determines shows evidence that the person 
  1.18  represents a risk to public safety.  Upon canceling the 
  1.19  offender's school bus driver endorsement, the commissioner shall 
  1.20  immediately notify the offender of the cancellation in writing, 
  1.21  by depositing in the United States post office a notice, with 
  1.22  postage prepaid, to the offender addressed to the offender's 
  1.23  last known address.
