A bill for an act
relating to animal welfare; prohibiting certain facilities from the use of
nonanesthetic gas to euthanize an animal; providing criminal penalties; proposing
coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 343.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

new text begin [343.38] HUMANE EUTHANASIA IN ANIMAL SHELTERS.

new text begin A person may not knowingly euthanize or authorize the euthanasia of a dog, cat,
or other animal in a private or public animal shelter, humane society, society for the
prevention of cruelty to animals, animal control facility, or animal pound by the use of
carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, or other nonanesthetic gas. A violation of this section
is a misdemeanor.
