  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to children; providing for data 
  1.3             classification for the community action, Head Start, 
  1.4             and foodshelf programs; amending Minnesota Statutes 
  1.5             1998, sections 119A.376, by adding a subdivision; 
  1.6             119A.44, by adding a subdivision; and 119A.50. 
  1.7   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.8      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 119A.376, is 
  1.9   amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.10     Subd. 4.  [DATA CLASSIFICATION.] Data collected on 
  1.11  individuals from which the identity of any individual receiving 
  1.12  services may be determined are private data on individuals and 
  1.13  must be maintained according to chapter 13. 
  1.14     Sec. 2.  Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 119A.44, is 
  1.15  amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.16     Subd. 7.  [DATA CLASSIFICATION.] Data collected on 
  1.17  individuals from which the identity of any individual receiving 
  1.18  services may be determined are private data on individuals and 
  1.19  must be maintained according to chapter 13. 
  1.20     Sec. 3.  Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 119A.50, is 
  1.21  amended to read: 
  1.22     119A.50 [HEAD START PROGRAM.] 
  1.23     Subdivision 1.  [DEPARTMENT OF CHILDREN, FAMILIES, AND 
  1.24  LEARNING.] The department of children, families, and learning is 
  1.25  the state agency responsible for administering the Head Start 
  1.26  program.  The commissioner of children, families, and learning 
  2.1   may make grants to public or private nonprofit agencies for the 
  2.2   purpose of providing supplemental funds for the federal Head 
  2.3   Start program. 
  2.4      Subd. 2.  [DATA CLASSIFICATION.] Data collected on 
  2.5   individuals from which the identity of any individual receiving 
  2.6   services may be determined are private data on individuals and 
  2.7   must be maintained according to chapter 13.
