1.1 A bill for an act 1.2 relating to natural resources; modifying types of 1.3 snowmobile trails eligible for grants-in-aid; 1.4 providing for certain immunity; amending Minnesota 1.5 Statutes 2002, section 84.83, subdivisions 3, 4. 1.6 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 1.7 Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 2002, section 84.83, 1.8 subdivision 3, is amended to read: 1.9 Subd. 3. [PURPOSES FOR THE ACCOUNT.] The money deposited 1.10 in the account and interest earned on that money may be expended 1.11 only as appropriated by law for the following purposes: 1.12 (1) for a grant-in-aid program to counties and 1.13 municipalities for construction and maintenance of snowmobile 1.14 trails, including maintenance of trails on public waters and on 1.15 lands and waters of Voyageurs National Park; 1.16 (2) for acquisition, development, and maintenance of state 1.17 recreational snowmobile trails; 1.18 (3) for snowmobile safety programs; and 1.19 (4) for the administration and enforcement of sections 1.20 84.81 to 84.91 and appropriated grants to local law enforcement 1.21 agencies. 1.22 Sec. 2. Minnesota Statutes 2002, section 84.83, 1.23 subdivision 4, is amended to read: 1.24 Subd. 4. [PROVISIONS APPLICABLE TO FUNDING RECIPIENTS.] 1.25 (a) Recipients of Minnesota trail assistance program funds must 2.1 be afforded the same protection and be held to the same standard 2.2 of liability as a political subdivision under chapter 466 for 2.3 activities associated with the administration, design, 2.4 construction, maintenance, and grooming of snowmobile trails. 2.5 (b) Recipients of Minnesota trail assistance program funds 2.6 who maintain ice trails on public waters or on waters of 2.7 Voyageurs National Park are expressly immune from liability 2.8 under section 466.03, subdivision 6e.
