1.1A bill for an act
1.2relating to transportation; restricting transportation on and near the Stillwater
1.3Lift Bridge.
1.4BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

1.5    Section 1. PROHIBITION OF TRUCKS ON STILLWATER LIFT BRIDGE.
1.6(a) For purposes of this section, "total length" means the overall length of the motor
1.7vehicle including (1) bumpers and load, and (2) the length of any semitrailer, as defined
1.8in Minnesota Statutes, section 168.002, subdivision 30, and any trailer, as defined in
1.9Minnesota Statutes, section 168.002, subdivision 35.
1.10(b) The commissioner of transportation shall prohibit the operation of motor vehicles
1.11that exceed a total length of 55 feet on that portion of marked Trunk Highway 36 from the
1.12intersection with marked Trunk Highway 95 and Washington County State-Aid Highway
1.1323 in Stillwater, to the Stillwater Lift Bridge, located on marked Trunk Highway 36 over
1.14the St. Croix River in Stillwater. The commissioner shall erect signs at appropriate
1.15locations giving notice of this prohibition, and shall request that the state of Wisconsin
1.16post similar signs on the Wisconsin side of the bridge.
1.17(c) The prohibition in paragraph (b) does not apply to emergency vehicles and
1.18motor vehicles while engaged in work on the bridge, including snow and ice removal
1.19and flood control.
1.20(d) The prohibition in paragraph (b) does not apply to the Stillwater Lift Bridge.
1.21EFFECTIVE DATE.This section is effective the day the commissioner erects
1.22signs giving notice of the prohibition established in this section.
