  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to state government; appropriating money for 
  1.3             employee compensation costs. 
  1.4   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.5      Section 1.  [APPROPRIATION FOR COMPENSATION COSTS.] 
  1.6      (a) The appropriations in this section are from the general 
  1.7   fund. 
  1.8      (b) $51,000,000 in fiscal year 2002 and $104,000,000 in 
  1.9   fiscal year 2003 are appropriated to the commissioner of finance 
  1.10  for compensation increases for executive, legislative, and 
  1.11  judicial branch state employees paid for from the general fund.  
  1.12  The commissioner of finance shall transfer to the appropriations 
  1.13  for each entity the amount certified as necessary for each 
  1.14  agency by its chief financial officer.  If the appropriation is 
  1.15  insufficient to pay the total cost of compensation increases, 
  1.16  the commissioner must make a proportional distribution among 
  1.17  entities. 
  1.18     (c) $34,000,000 in fiscal year 2002 and $69,000,000 in 
  1.19  fiscal year 2003 are appropriated to the Minnesota state 
  1.20  colleges and universities board for compensation increases for 
  1.21  employees of the Minnesota state colleges and universities. 
  1.22     (d) $33,000,000 in fiscal year 2002 and $67,000,000 in 
  1.23  fiscal year 2003 are appropriated to the University of Minnesota 
  1.24  board of regents for compensation increases for employees of the 
  2.1   University of Minnesota.
