A bill for an act
relating to adult basic education; workforce training; providing for a regional
American Indian contextualized adult basic education and career development
program; appropriating money.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin AMERICAN INDIAN CONTEXTUALIZED ADULT BASIC
EDUCATION AND CAREER DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM; APPROPRIATION.

new text begin $380,000 in fiscal year 2017 is appropriated from the general fund to the
commissioner of employment and economic development for a grant for the regional
American Indian contextualized adult basic education pathway program at the American
Indian Opportunities and Industrialization Center and the Northwest Indian Community
Development Center to reduce academic disparities for American Indian adults. Grant
funds available under this section may be used to provide:

new text begin (3) remedial training leading to enrollment in a postsecondary higher education
institution; and
