  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to game and fish; modifying artificial light 
  1.3             prohibition; amending Minnesota Statutes 2000, section 
  1.4             97B.081, subdivision 2. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 2000, section 97B.081, 
  1.7   subdivision 2, is amended to read: 
  1.8      Subd. 2.  [WITHOUT FIREARMS.] (a) Between the hours of 
  1.9   10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. from September 1 to December 31, a 
  1.10  person may not cast the rays of a spotlight, headlight, or other 
  1.11  artificial light in a field, woodland, or forest to spot, 
  1.12  locate, or take a wild animal except to take raccoons under 
  1.13  section 97B.621, subdivision 3, or to tend traps under section 
  1.14  97B.931.  It is not a violation of this subdivision paragraph 
  1.15  for a person to carry out any agricultural, occupational, or 
  1.16  recreational practice, including snowmobiling that is not 
  1.17  related to spotting, locating, or taking a wild animal.  
  1.18     (b) Between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., a person 
  1.19  may not project a spotlight or other hand-held light from a 
  1.20  moving motor vehicle being operated on land, except for the 
  1.21  following purposes: 
  1.22     (1) safety; 
  1.23     (2) emergency response; 
  1.24     (3) normal vehicle operation; or 
  1.25     (4) performing an occupational duty.
