A bill for an act
relating to crime victims; appropriating money to provide emergency shelter for
East African women and children victims of abuse.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

$565,000 in fiscal year 2014 and $650,000 in fiscal year 2015 are appropriated from
the general fund to the commissioner of public safety for a grant to the Voice of East
African Women organization to provide emergency shelter programming for victims of
domestic abuse and trafficking. The program shall provide shelter to East African women
and children and other victims of domestic violence in Minnesota. The appropriations
must be used for the operating expenses of a shelter. The amount appropriated in 2015 is
added to the base for the Office of Justice Programs in the Department of Public Safety for
grants for emergency shelter programming for victims of domestic abuse and trafficking.
